The Trisagion (Thrice-Holy) Prayers
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Glory to thee, O God, glory to thee.
O Heavenly King, O Comforter, the
Spirit of Truth, Who art in all places and fillest all things; Treasury
of good things and Giver of life: Come and dwell in us and cleanse us
of every stain, and save our souls, O gracious Lord.
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal: have mercy on us. (3 times)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
All-Holy Trinity, have mercy on us.
Lord, cleanse us from our sins. Master, pardon our iniquities. Holy
God, visit and heal our infirmities for thy name’s sake.
Lord, have mercy. (3 times)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Our Father, who art in Heaven,
hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as
it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our
trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not
into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, both now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Troparia to the Holy Trinity
Having arisen from sleep, we fall down
before thee, O Blessed One, and sing to thee, O Mighty One, the Angelic
Hymn: Holy, holy, holy art thou, O God through the Theotokos have mercy
on us.
Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
From my bed and sleep thou hast raised
me; O Lord, enlighten my mind and my heart, and open my lips that I may
praise thee, O Holy Trinity: Holy, holy, holy art thou, O God, through
the Theotokos have mercy on us.
Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Suddenly the Judge shall come, and the
deeds of each shall be revealed; but with fear we cry out in the middle
of the night: Holy, Holy, Holy art thou, O God, through the Theotokos
have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy. (12 times)

*First Prayer, by St. Macarius the Great
O God, cleanse me, a sinner, for I
have done nothing good in thy sight. Deliver me from the evil one, and
may thy will be within me so that I may open my unworthy lips without
condemnation and praise the Holy name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
*Lord, have mercy. (3 times)
*
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
A Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Arising from sleep I
thank thee, O Holy Trinity, because of the abundance of thy goodness
and long-suffering thou wast not wroth with me, slothful and sinful as
I am; neither hast thou destroyed me in my transgressions: but in
thy compassion raised me up, as I lay in despair: that at dawn I might
sing the glories of thy Majesty. Do thou now enlighten the eyes of my
understanding, open my mouth to receive thy words, teach me thy
commandments, help me to do thy will, confessing thee from my heart,
singing and praising thine All-Holy Name: of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
The Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible;
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son
of God, the Only-Begotten, begotten of the Father before all worlds,
Light of Light; Very God of Very God, begotten, not made; of one
essence with the Father, by whom all things were made; Who for us men
and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate of the
Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man; And He was crucified
for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried; And the
third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; And ascended into
heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of the Father; And He shall come
again with glory to judge the living and the dead; Whose Kingdom shall
have no end;
And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, and Giver of Life, Who proceedeth from the Father, Who with the
Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, Who spake by the prophets;
And I believe in one Holy, Catholic
and Apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of
sins. I look for the Resurrection of the dead. And the Life of the
world to come. Amen.

Seventh Prayer, by St. Basil the Great
We bless thee, O God most high and
Lord of mercies, who ever workest great and mysterious deeds for us,
glorious, wonderful and numberless; who providest us with sleep as a
rest from our infirmities and as a repose for our bodies tired by
labor. We thank thee that thou hast not destroyed us in our
transgressions, but in thy love toward mankind thou hast raised us up,
as we lay in despair, that we may glorify thy Majesty. We entreat thine
infinite goodness, enlighten the eyes of our understanding and raise up
our minds from the heavy sleep of indolence; open our mouths and fill
them with thy praise, that we may unceasingly sing and confess thee,
who art God glorified in all and by all, the Eternal
Father,
the Only-Begotten Son, and the All-Holy and good and life-giving
Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
Intercessory Prayers for the Living
O Lord Jesus Christ, our God, who in
thy mercy and loving-kindness dost regard the prayers of all who call
upon thee with their whole heart; incline thine ear and hear my prayer,
now humbly offered unto thee:
Be mindful, O Lord, of thy Holy,
Catholic and Apostolic Church; confirm and strengthen it, increase it
and keep it in peace, and preserve it unconquerable forever.
Be mindful, O Lord, of our Patriarch (Patriarch’s name), Metropolitan (Metropolitan’s name), Bishop (Bishop’s name), and of every bishop of the Orthodox Church; the Priests (Priest's name) the Deacons (Deacon's name),
and all the Clergy of thy Church, which thou hast established to feed
the flock of thy word; and by their prayers have mercy upon me and save
me, a sinner.
Be mindful, O Lord, of our President (President’s name),
of all civil authorities, especially the judges of our land, of our
armed forces, of this city in which we dwell, and of every city and
land; grant us peaceful times, that we may lead a calm and tranquil
life in all godliness and sanctity.
Be mindful, O Lord, of my parents, (their names), my spouse (name), of my brothers and sisters, (their names), of my family, (names), of relatives, (their names), and of my friends, (their names), the members of my community(their names), my spiritual father (name), and my godchildren (their names);
and grant them mercy, life, peace, health, salvation and visitation,
and pardon and remission of sins; that they may evermore praise and
glorify thy Holy Name.
Be mindful, O Lord, of those who
travel by land, by sea, and air; of the young and the old; orphans and
widows; the sick and the suffering; the sorrowing and the afflicted;
all captives and the needy poor; and upon them all send forth thy
mercies, for thou art the Giver of all good things.
Be mindful, O Lord, and have mercy
upon those who envy and affront me and do me mischief, and do not let
them perish through me, a sinner.
Be mindful, O Lord, those who have
departed from the faith, dazzled by destroying heresies, do enlighten
by the light of thy holy wisdom, and unite them to thy one, Holy,
Catholic and Apostolic Church.
Be mindful, O Lord, of all those who have fallen asleep in the hope of resurrection unto life eternal, especially (add names);
pardon all their transgressions both voluntary and involuntary, whether
in word, or deed, or thought. Shelter them in a place of brightness, a
place of peace, a place of repose, whence all sickness, sorrow and
sighing have fled away, and where the sight of thy countenance
rejoiceth all thy Saints from all the ages. Grant them thy heavenly
Kingdom, and a portion in thine ineffable and eternal blessings, and
the enjoyment of thine unending Life.
Be mindful, O Lord, of me, thy humble
servant; grant me thy grace, that I may be diligent and faithful,
avoiding evil company and influence, resisting temptation; that I may
lead a godly and righteous life, blameless and peaceful, ever serving
thee; that I may be accounted worthy of entering the Kingdom of Heaven.
Amen.
Hear my prayer, O Lord, for thou art
merciful and compassionate, and lovest mankind, and to thee are due all
glory, honor, and worship: to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
A Prayer to the Saints
Hail! Mary, full of grace, the Lord is
with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy
womb, for thou hast borne the Savior of our souls. Holy Mary pray for
us sinners.
O heavenly hosts of holy angels and
archangels, pray for us sinners. O glorious apostles, prophets,
martyrs, and all the saints, pray for us sinners.
O Lord, save thy people and bless thy inheritance
and by virtue of thy cross preserve thy habitation. Amen.
A Prayer for the Beginning of the Day
O Lord, grant me to greet the coming
day in peace. Grant that I might fully surrender myself to thy holy
will. In every hour of the day reveal thy will to me. Teach me to treat
all that comes to me throughout this day with peace of soul and with
the firm conviction that thy will governs all.
In all my words and actions, guide my
thoughts and feelings. In every unexpected event, do not let me forget
that all art sent by thee. Teach me to act straightforwardly and wisely
with every member of my family, neither embarrassing nor saddening
anyone.
O Lord, give me strength to bear the
fatique of the coming day and all that it shall bring. Direct my will
and teach me to pray, to believe, to hope, to be patient, to forgive,
and to love
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Eternal God and King of all
Creation, who has granted me to reach this hour; forgive the sins I
have committed this day in deed, word and thought. Cleanse, O Lord, my
humble soul from every defilement of flesh and spirit. Grant, Lord,
that I may pass through this night in peace. When I rise in my humble
bed may I please thy Most Holy Name all the days of my life and trample
under foot the physical and bodiless enemies that war against me.
Deliver me, Lord, from vain thoughts that defile me and from evil
lusts. For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power and the Glory, of the
Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit: both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

*Prayer for the Night
Lord, accept me in penitence.
Lord, abandon me not.
Lord, lead me not into temptation.
Lord, grant me good thoughts.
Lord, grant me tears, the remembrance of death and compunction.
Lord, grant me the thought of confessing my sins.
Lord, grant me humility, chastity and obedience.
Lord, grant me patience, courage and meekness.
Lord, cause the root of good to dwell within me—thy fear in my heart.

Lord, I know that thou doest as thou wilt: may thy will be in me, a
sinner, for thou art blessed unto ages of ages. Amen
*A Prayer for Forgiveness
O Lord our God, if during this day I
have sinned, whether in word or deed or thought, forgive me all, for
thou art good and lovest mankind. Grant me a peaceful and undisturbed
sleep, and deliver me from all influence and temptation of the evil
one. Raise me up again in proper time that I may glorify thee; for thou

Let God Arise!
Let God arise and let his enemies be
scattered! Let those who hate him flee from before his face! As smoke
vanishes so let them vanish. As wax melts before the fire, so let the
demons perish before the face of those who love God, and sign
themselves with the sign of the cross
and say joyfully:
Rejoice most precious and
life-creating cross of the Lord, which chases demons away through the
power of our Lord Jesus Christ who was nailed to you, descended into
hell and, having trampled down the power of the devil, gave to us his
precious cross for the routing of all enemies. Help me forever, most
precious and life-recreating cross of the Lord
with the holy Theotokos and all the saints. Amen.
Intercessions

those who hate and wrong us. Do good to those who do good. Grant to our
brethren, and relatives all petitions for salvation and eternal life.

brethren, and deliver them from every misfortune. Grant remission of
sins to those who serve us and are kind to us.

be. Remember, Lord, those who bear fruit and do good works in thy Holy
Church, and grant them all their petitions for salvation and eternal

thy reason and direct us onto the path of thy commandments
for thou art blessed unto ages of ages. Amen.
Remember, O Lord, our (relative's and friend's names)

eternal, and also all those who have completed their lives in piety and
faith. Pardon all their transgressions both voluntary and involuntary,
whether in word or deed or thought. Shelter them in a place of
brightness, a place of peace, a place of repose, whence all sickness,
sorrow and sighing have fled away, and where the sight of thy
countenance rejoiceth all thy Saints from all the ages. Grant them thy

A Final Prayer for the Night
As I prepare for the night, O master,
grant rest to my body and soul. Keep me from the dark sleep of sin and
from every evil and lustful pleasure of the night.
Still the impulses of passions and put
out the flaming arrows which the evil one looses deceitfully against
me. Still the rebellions of the flesh and put to sleep my wordly and
material reasoning.
O God, grant me an alert mind, chaste
thoughts, a sober heart, and an easy sleep, free of every satanic
dream. Raise me at the time of prayer confirmed in thy commandments,

(3:00pm- At this hour Jesus died on the Cross)
Master, Lord Jesus Christ our God,
who patiently endured our sins and led us to this hour, at which thou
wast hung on the life-giving Cross, who opened the way to Paradise for
the penitent thief and destroyed death by thy death, have mercy on us,
thy sinful and unworthy servants. We have sinned and violated thy law;
we art unworthy to lift up our eyes and look into the heights of
heaven, for we have forsaken the path of thy righteousness and have
walked according to the desires of our hearts. But now we beg thee in
thy abundant goodness; spare us, Lord, in thy great mercy and save us
for the glory of thy Holy Name, for our days were spent in vain. Save
us from the hand of the enemy, forgive our sins and destroy the desires
of our flesh, that we might live anew in thee, our Master and
Benefactor. Help us follow thy commandments, and attain eternal rest,
where all the blessed dwell. For thou art truly the joy of all those
who love thee, Christ our God, and we glorify thy Eternal

Father and thine All-Holy, good and life-giving Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer For Enemies
Lord Jesus Christ, Who didst command
us to love our enemies, and those who defame and injure us, and to pray
for them and forgive them; Who thyself didst pray for thine enemies,
who crucified thee: grant us, we pray, the spirit of Christian
reconciliation and meekness, that we may heartily forgive every injury
and be reconciled with our enemies. Grant us to overcome the
malevolence and offences of people with Christian meekness and true
love of our neighbor.
We further beseech thee, O Lord, to
grant to our enemies true peace and forgiveness of sins; and do not
allow them to leave this life without true faith and sincere
conversion. And help us repay evil with goodness, and to remain safe
from the temptations of the devil and from all the perils which
threaten us, in the form of visible and invisible enemies. Amen.

Prayer Against Animosity
We thank thee, O Master, Lover of
Mankind, King of the ages and Bestower of good things, Who destroyed
the middle wall of enmity, and granted peace to the human race,
and Who now has granted peace to thy servants. Instill in them the fear
of thee and confirm in them love—one for the other. Extinquish
every dispute and banish all temptation to disagreement. For thou art
our peace and to thee we ascribe glory, to the
Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.
O God, who art peace everlasting,
whose chosen reward is the gift of peace, and who has taught us that
the peace-makers are thy children, pour thy peace into our souls, that
everything discordant may utterly vanish, and all that makes for peace
be sweet to us forever. Amen.

Prayer Against Evil Spirits
O God of gods and Lord of Lords,
Creator of the fiery ranks and Fashioner of the fleshless powers, the
Artisan of heavenly things and those under the heavens, whom no man
hast seen, nor is able to see, whom all creation fears: into the dark
depths of Hell thou hast hurled the Commander who had become proud, and
who, because of his disobedient service wast cast down from the heights
to earth, as well as the angels that fell away with him, all having
become evil demons. Grant that this, my exorcism being performed in
thine awesome Name, be terrible to the Master of evil and to all his
minions who had fallen with him from the heights of brightness. Drive
him into banishment, commanding him to depart hence, so that no harm
might be worked against thy sealed Image. And as have commanded, let
those who art sealed receive the strength to tread upon serpents and
scorpions, and upon all the power of the Enemy. For magnified, hymned
and glorified is thy most-holy Name: of the

Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer if Home is Troubled by Evil Spirits
O Lord God of our salvation, Son of
the Living God, who is borne on the Cherubim, being above all
dominions, principalities, authorities, and powers: thou art great and
fearsome to all around you. Thou art the One who set the heavens like a
vault and made the earth in thy might; who directs the universe in thy
wisdom. When earthquakes occur under heaven from the foundations, its
pillars are unshaken. Thou speakest and the sun does not shine. Thou
sealed the stars. Thou forbidst the seas and dried them up. Authorities
and dominions hide from thy wrath, and the rock trembles before thee.
Thou obliterated the gates of brass and demolished the bars of iron.
Thou boundst the Mighty One and smashed his vessels. By thy Cross thou
cast down tyrants and drew the Serpent with the hook of thy humanity.
And having cast him down, thou bound him with hooks in the gloom of
Tartary. As the same Lord, the Hope of those who place their
confirmation on thee, and the Wall of might for these whose expectation
is in thee, renounce, drive away and transform all diabolical actions
and all satanic indictments, all slanders of the Adversary, and of the
powers lying under this roof. Free those bearing the Sign which is
awesome against demons—the Cross of thy victory—and calling
upon thy gracious name from possession by him and from those wandering
about under this roof. Yea, Lord, thou drove away legions of demons,
and the demons and unclean spirits by which the deaf and dumb were
held. These thou hast commanded to depart and not return again. Thou
hast consumed all the armies of our invisible enemies, and have made
wise the faithful who have known you. For thou sayest, “Behold, I
give thee power to trample under-foot snakes and scorpions, and all the
power of enemies.” Preserve, O Master, all who live in this house
from all harm and every temptation from below, delivering them from
fear of the feeble one and the arrows that fly by day, from things
proceeding from the darkness and attacks by demons at midday. Let thy
servants and thy children, delighting in thine help, and preserved by
armies of angels, faithfully sing as with one accord: “The Lord
is Helper to me and I will not be afraid; what can man do to me?”
and again, “I will fear no evil, for thou art with me.” As
thou art my Confirmation, O God, Mighty Master, Prince of Peace, and
Father of the ages to come (for thy kingdom is an eternal kingdom), to
thee alone is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, with the

Father and the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer Against Demonic Influence
Almighty God, Who delivered thy
people from the bondage of the adversary, and through thy Son cast down
Satan like lightning, deliver me also from every influence of unclean
spirits. Command Satan to depart far from me by the power of thine Only
Begotten Son. Rescue me from demonic imaginings and darkness. Fill me
with the light of the Holy Spirit that I may be guarded against all
snares of crafty demons. Grant that an Angel will always go before me
and lead me to the path of righteousness all the days of my life, to
the honor of thy glorious Name,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer Against Evil Thoughts and Desires
O God, the Father of our Savior
Jesus Christ, whose name is great, whose nature is blissful, whose
goodness is inexhaustible, God and Ruler of all things, who are blessed
forever; before whom stand thousands and thousands, and ten thousand
times ten thousand the hosts of holy angels and archangels; sanctify, O
Lord, our souls and bodies and spirits, search our consciences, and
cast out of us every evil thought, every base desire, all envy and
pride, all wrath and anger, and all that is contrary to thy holy will.
And grant us, O Lord, Lover of men, with a pure heart and contrite
soul, to call upon thee, our holy God and Father who art in heaven.
Amen. (from the Liturgy of St. James)

Prayer for Protection
Be praised, O God, Almighty Ruler, who
makes the day bright with your sunshine, and the night with the beams
of heavenly fires! Listen now to our prayers, and forgive us both our
conscious and unconscious transgressions. Clothe us with the armor of
righteousness; shield us with thy truth; watch over us with thy power;
save us from all calamity; and give us grace to pass all the days of
our life blameless, holy, peaceful, free from sin, terror, and offense.
For with thee is mercy and plenteous redemption, our Lord and God, and
to thee we bring our thanks and praise. Amen.
May this day we fall into no sin,
neither run into any kind of danger; but that all our doings, being
ordered by thy governance, may be righteous in thy sight; through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for Wisdom
God of Light, Father of Life, Giver of
Wisdom, Benefactor of our souls, who gives to the faint-hearted who put
their trust in thee those things into which the angels desire to look:
O Sovereign Lord, who has brought us up from the depths of darkness to
light, who hast graciously bestowed upon us freedom from slavery, and
who has scattered the darkness of sin within us; do thou now also
enlighten the eyes of our understanding, and sanctify us wholly in
soul, body, and spirit. Amen ((From the Liturgy of St. Mark)
O Lord our God, teach us, we beseech
thee, to ask aright for the right blessings. Steer thou the vessel of
our life toward thyself, thou tranquil Haven of all storm-tossed souls.
Show us the course wherein we should go. Renew a willing spirit within
us. Let thy Spirit curb our wayward senses, and guide and enable us
unto that which is in our true good, to keep thy laws, and in all our
works evermore to rejoice in thy glorious and gladdening Presence. For
thine is the glory and praise from all thy saints now and ever, and
unto ages of ages. Amen. (a prayer of St. Basil)

Prayer for Love
Christ my God, set my heart on fire
with love in thee, that in its flame I may love thee with all my heart,
with all my mind, and with all my soul and with all my strength, and my
neighbor as myself, so that by keeping thy commandments I may glorify
thee, the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Amen.

Prayer for Loving as God Loves
O God, we have known and believed
the love that thou hast for us. May we, by dwelling in love, dwell in
thee, and thou in us. May we learn to love thee whom we have not seen,
by loving our brethren who we have seen. Teach us, O heavenly Father,
the love wherewith thou hast loved us; fashion us, O blessed Lord,
after thine own example of love; shed abroad, O thou Holy Spirit of
Love, the love of God and man in our hearts. Amen.

Prayer for Serving God
I know, O Lord, and do with all
humility acknowledge myself an object altogether unworthy of thy love;
but sure I am, thou art an object altogether worthy of mine. I am not
good enough to serve thee, but thou has a right to the best service I
can pay. Do thou then impart to me some of that excellence, and that
shall supply my own want of worth. Help me to cease from sin according
to thy will, that I may be capable of doing thee service according to
my duty. Enable me so to guard and govern myself, so to begin and
finish my course, that, when the race of life is run, I may sleep in
peace, and rest in thee. Be with me unto the end, that my sleep may be
rest indeed, my rest perfect security, and that security a blessed
eternity. Amen. (a prayer of St. Augustine)

Prayer for Following Christ
O Lord, who has mercy upon all, take
away from me my sins, and mercifully kindle in me the fire of thy Holy
Spirit. Take away from me the heart of stone, and give me a heart of
flesh, a heart to love and adore thee, a heart to delight in thee, to
follow and to enjoy thee, for Christ’s sake. Amen. (a prayer of St. Ambrose)

and may drink in the sweetness of life eternal. Amen.

Prayer of a Student
Christ my Lord, the Giver of light
and wisdom, who opened the eyes of the blind man and transformed the
fishermen into wise heralds and teachers of the gospel through the
coming of the Holy Spirit, shine also in my mind the light of the grace
of the Holy Spirit. Grant me discernment, understanding and wisdom in
learning. Enable me to complete my assignments and to abound in every
good work, for to thee I give honor and glory, to the

Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

thy Holy Spirit on me to strengthen me that I may learn well the
subject I am about to study and by it become a better person for thy

enlightens and sanctifies every person coming into the world, let the

A Prayer to Praise God
O Lord our God, who hast bidden the
light to shine out of darkness, who hast again wakened us to praise thy
goodness and ask for thy grace; accept now, in thy endless mercy, the
sacrifice of our worship and thanksgiving, and grant unto us all such
requests as may be wholesome for us. Make us to be children of the day,
and heirs of thy everlasting inheritance. Remember, O Lord, according
to the multitude of thy mercies, thy whole Church; all who join with us
in prayer; all our brethren by land, sea, air, space, or wherever they
may be in thy vast kingdom, who stand in need of thy grace and succor.
Pour out upon them the riches of thy mercy, so that we, redeemed in
soul and body, and steadfast in faith, may ever praise thy wonderful
and holy name. Amen.
