iiiiiiiiiiFr. Michael gave a great homily this past Sunday on sanctification. Thanks goes to our Subdeacon
iiiiiiiiiiCraig for recording the homily, and of course thanks also goes to Fr. Michael for giving the homily. You
iiiiiiiiiican access the homily to listen or download from two places: from the home page and from the media
iiiiiiiiiipage. After a few weeks I'll take it down again to keep the webpage from getting too large and we have
iiiiiiiiiito pay overage charges. As always, I keep copies of the lectures and homilies on my computer, so if
iiiiiiiiiiyou want a copy of a past lecture or homily just let me know and I'll send them to you via email (or CD
iiiiiiiiiiif they are too large to be sent by email).

iiiiiMay 29, 2010

iiiiiiiiiiDue to Deacon Neal and his family attending a wedding, Deacon Neal will not be able to lead the

iiiiiiiiiiSorry for the short notice. Katya and her husband Lev is planning a camping trip to St. Andrews State
iiiiiiiiiiPark near Panama City, FL May 31 - June 5. Lev would like to invite anyone who would like to join him
iiiiiiiiiiand his wife and kids to this trip. Anyone going will stay in the primitive camping area on St. Andrews
iiiiiiiiiiIsland and spend time on the beach, swimming and snorkeling. This is a secluded area reserved for
iiiiiiiiiifaith-based organizations and we have Fr. Michael's blessing to go (who knows, maybe this is the last
iiiiiiiiiichance to enjoy the Gulf of Mexico beaches before they are hit by the oil. There is no oil anywhere
iiiiiiiiiiclose to St. Andrews State Park so far).

iiiiiiiiiiPlease let Katya know if you wish to go. It will not cost anything except for transportation costs. It's
iiiiiiiiiian 8-10 hour drive and Katya and Lev will provide all camping gear and food.

iiiiiiiiiiLessee, you can go out to a music club with your “cool” friends on Friday night... OR... you can watch
iiiiiiiiiia 3½ hour, black-n-white CLASSIC movie in Russian with English subtitles with your geeky friends.
iiiiiiiiiiNO BRAINER, right?! (don’t answer that)

iiiiiiiiiiSubdeacon Craig will be pressing “PLAY” on the DVD player at 7:00pm and would love to have some
iiiiiiiiiifriendly company to watch it with. So bring some snacks and/or something to drink (or not—you can
iiiiiiiiiijust bring yourself, it’s all good). Kick back and enjoy some stress-free, (hopefully) intellectually and
iiiiiiiiiispiritually stimulating entertainment with good friends.

iiiiiiiiiiThis is the RESTORED version of the film by director Andrei Tarkovsky. Here’s the write up from
iiiiiiiiiiNetflix:

iiiiiiiiii“Widely recognized as a cinematic masterpiece, this mesmerizing account of 15th century Russian
iiiiiiiiiimonk Andrei Rublev follows the icon painter as he faces violence, political persecution and, eventually,
iiiiiiiiiia crisis of faith after leaving the monastery to paint Vladimir Cathedral’s interior. The Soviets
iiiiiiiiiisuppressed this sweeping epic, which was not seen as director Andrei Tarkovsky intended until its
iiiiiiiiiire-release more than 20 years after completion.”

iiiiiiiiiiSee you Friday!

iiiiiiiiiiChurch. Join us!

iiiiiMarch 12, 2010

iiiiiiiiiiDue to a a conflict in scedule, Deacon Neal will not be able to lead the Typika this Sunday, March
iiiiiiiiii14th. Subdeacon Ephraim will lead the Typika but without the Reserve Sacrament and Deacon Neal
iiiiiiiiiiecourages all who can to attend.

iiiiiiiiiiAlso, Wednesday evening of next week (March 17th) begining at 6:00pm we will offer the Great
iiiiiiiiiiCanon of St. Andrew in its entirety. The service will last approximately 3 1/2 hours and we are
iiiiiiiiiiencouraged to attend at least a portion of it. If you have to come and go please feel free to do so. The
iiiiiiiiiiCanon is a treasure of pentential liturature.

iiiiiiiiiiIn this hymn, the participant's soul is taken on a journey through the Old and New Testaments and
iiiiiiiiiiis shown many great (and not-so-great) examples of repentance. Through haunting melodies and
iiiiiiiiiistirring poetic imagery, the hymn causes each of us to examine our own lives and to see the areas
iiiiiiiiiiin which we each need to repent. The hymn constantly encourages us to imitate the great
iiiiiiiiiiexamples of repentance given to us by godly men and women of the past.

iiiiiiiiiiFor this reason, it has become one of the most beloved hymns of our Church and is a fitting way to
iiiiiiiiiieither buttress your Lenten efforts or reset them (in our struggles in the wilderness as is often the
iiiiiiiiiicase with us frail human beings).

iiiiiiiiiREMINDER:
iiiiiiiiiiOn Saturday March 20th, Fr. Michael will offer his Lenten Retreat based on the Rule of St. Benedict
iiiiiiiiiifollowed by Great Vespers. This is also a great opportunity to make this Lent more productive. I hope
iiiiiiiiiieveryone will try to attend. Then on Sunday March 21st, there will be Orthros beginning at 9:00am
iiiiiiiiiifollowed by the Divine Liturgy.

iiiiiFebruary 25, 2010

iiiiiFebruary 8, 2010

iiiiiiiiiiFebruary 15-18 (Monday through Thursday nights) at 7:00pm, you are invited to enter into one of the
iiiiiiiiiimost moving experiences in Christendom: "The Great Canon" written by St. Andrew of Crete in the
iiiiiiiiiiseventh century.

iiiiiiiiiiAs is traditional in the Orthodox Church, this lengthy hymn will be broken into four parts and will be
iiiiiiiiiisung each night within Great Compline during the first four nights of Great Lent.

iiiiiiiiiiIn this hymn, the participant's soul is taken on a journey through the Old and New Testaments and
iiiiiiiiiiis shown many great (and not-so-great) examples of repentance. Through haunting melodies and
iiiiiiiiiistirring poetic imagery, the hymn causes each of us to examine our own lives and to see the areas
iiiiiiiiiiin which we each need to repent. The hymn constantly encourages us to imitate the great
iiiiiiiiiiexamples of repentance given to us by godly men and women of the past.

iiiiiiiiiiFor this reason, it has become one of the most beloved hymns of our church and is a fitting way to
iiiiiiiiiibegin the Journey of Lent.

iiiiiiiiiiWe would be honored for you would join us for at least one night (if not all four) during this special
iiiiiiiiiitime as we open our hearts to God and strive to turn ourselves back to Him.

iiiiiFebruary 1, 2010

iiiiiiiiiiSunday, March 21st at 10:00am. Orthos will start at 9:00am.

iiiiiJanuary 29, 2010

iiiiiiiiiiEver since Saint Pachomius first introduced the knotted chotki rope, it has primarily used by monks
iiiiiiiiiiin monasteries, and also ordinary Christians, to say the Jesus Prayer under the close guidance of
iiiiiiiiiian Orthodox spiritual father. We now have, in the Orthodox Links section, a direct link to order
iiiiiiiiiiauthentic chotki rope from Bucharest, Romania. They make and sell exquisite Russian chotki
iiiiiiiiiiprayer ropes that are traditionally hand tied from black wool, and not only includes chotkis of 50,
iiiiiiiiii100, 150 and 300 knots, but also wrist bracelets of 33 knots.

iiiiiiiiiiAnyone wishing to order should go to the Orthodox Links page and follow the link to order from the
iiiiiiiiiiwebsite.

iiiiiJanuary 4, 2010

iiiiiiiiiiThanks to everyone who came and helped to move and to get our new space ready for worship. It
iiiiiiiiiiwas a great day for our little Mission and we were able to get everything over and pretty much placed
iiiiiiiiiiwhere we wanted it. Of course, in the coming days and weeks we will be making little tweaks here
iiiiiiiiiiand there, but overall we are very happy with where everything is.

iiiiiiiiiiThanks again for helping.

iiiiiJanuary 1, 2010

iiiiiiiiiiHappy New Year! I pray that the New Year finds you all in good health and I look forward to
iiiiiiiiiiworshipping the Lord our God with you all in the coming year.

iiiiiiiiiiAs many of you know, Holy Resurrection Orthodox Christian Church has needed a larger space for
iiiiiiiiiisome time now. We have been actively looking for a building of our own and continue to do so.

iiiiiiiiiiIn the meantime, we will be moving into a location TWICE the size of our current space! It is
iiiiiiiiiiLITERALLY right around the corner . . . like, about 50 paces. The new location is in the same office
iiiiiiiiiipark as our current space. Just go to the end of the parking lot and turn left.

iiiiiiiiiiThe new space has a kitchen and several class/office rooms. It will allow us to continue to grow in
iiiiiiiiiinumbers as we continue to raise money to purchase church property on our own.

iiiiiiiiiiOur plan is to begin worshipping there THIS WEEKEND (Jan 2-3)! So if you have some time this
iiiiiiiiiiSaturday, come help us move. We will be working most of the day beginning at 9:00am. It should
iiiiiiiiiibe an enjoyable time of fun and fellowship. The more people we have help, the quicker the move.

iiiiiiiiiiService schedule this weekend is:

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiSaturday (Jan 2): Great Vespers at 6:00pm
iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiSunday (Jan 3): Confessions at 9:00am, The Hours at 9:30am, Divine Liturgy at 10:00pm

iiiiiiiiiiWe hope to see you there.
